Prof. Dunant is a material scientist whose career went from the material science of concrete durability to holistic analysis of material flows and design strategies in the built environment and has been widely published.  

Always interested in driving change, he has led the development of a criterion for the certification of bonds aimed at establishing green cement plants. As well as a scientist, he is an entrepreneur, having founded two start-ups, one providing early stage design software, which allows designers to know in minutes the complete set of possibilities for their structures, and one devoted to the recycling of demolition waste into new cement. He is the inventor of a new process to recycle steel electrically, using the heat generated in electric arc furnaces to recycle steel.
