Founder & Global CEO, DNEG
Turning Indian mythology into global blockbusters

Namit Malhotra is a filmmaker, producer, and the Global CEO of DNEG, a world leader in visual effects, animation, and creative technologies. He is also the Founder and Non-Executive Director of Prime Focus Limited, DNEG’s parent company.

As a film producer, Namit has been instrumental in bringing ambitious cinematic visions to life. His productions include the Bollywood blockbuster ‘Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva’ and ‘The Garfield Movie’, which grossed over $275 million globally. Through his content development and production company, Prime Focus Studios, he is currently spearheading a dynamic slate of projects, including ‘Animal Friends’—a live-action/animation hybrid feature film in collaboration with Legendary Entertainment and Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort—and ‘The Angry Birds Movie 3’ with Rovio Entertainment Corporation and SEGA.

Namit is also the creative force behind Ramayana, a cinematic duology that will reimagine the 5,000-year-old epic for a global audience, laying the foundation for an expansive transmedia universe.

A third-generation filmmaker, Namit’s journey began in 1995 with a garage start-up in Mumbai. A decade later, he had taken Prime Focus public on India’s National Stock Exchange, pioneering a series of technological advancements that transformed Bollywood’s filmmaking landscape.

His vision extended beyond India, leading him to expand Prime Focus into international markets through strategic acquisitions, bridging the gap between East and West.

In 2014, Namit acquired the prestigious British visual effects studio Double Negative, rebranding it as DNEG. Under his leadership, the company has expanded into a global powerhouse, growing from 700 to over 9,000 employees, diversifying its service offerings, and securing seven Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects. His strategic foresight has positioned DNEG at the forefront of the industry, driving innovation and shaping the future of storytelling.

Namit’s leadership is defined by a bold, forward-thinking approach to business growth. In August 2021, he secured a $250 million investment from Novator Capital Advisers, LLP, reinforcing the company’s expansion strategy. In 2024, he further accelerated DNEG’s trajectory with a $200 million investment from the United Al Saqer Group, enabling the group’s continued growth across markets and geographies.

Committed to pushing creative and technological boundaries, Namit leads from the front—championing innovation, fostering talent, and redefining the landscape of global entertainment.
