Engineering biohybrid organs at the human-machine edge

Dr. Shriya Srinivasan is a rare confluence of tradition and technology—a leading biomedical engineer and classical Indian dancer whose life’s work bridges science, movement, and meaning. She is an assistant professor of bioengineering at Harvard University, where she leads the BIONICS Lab, developing next-generation neuroprosthetics and reconstructive technologies to restore human movement and sensation. Her innovations—ranging from neural interfaces for amputees to ingestible bioelectronics—have earned her the Forbes 30 Under 30, MIT Technology Review Innovator Under 35, and the Lemelson-MIT Student Prize, among others.

In parallel, Shriya has trained in Bharatanatyam for over 25 years under Guru Sujatha Srinivasan. A vibrant performer known for her expressive depth and technical precision, she has graced renowned stages across India and the U.S., including the Madras Music Academy, Narada Gana Sabha, and Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana. She is the co-founder of Anubhava Dance Company, a collective of Indian-American dancers reimagining classical performance for global audiences.

Whether on stage or in the lab, Shriya’s work reflects a singular vision: to unite science and soul, discipline and design, technology and tradition. Through her unique dual identity, she speaks to a new generation of global thinkers who seek not only excellence, but wholeness.
